Korea – Gyeongju
Gyeongju (world cultural heritage city) is probable the last place I will visit before leaving Korea! Wow, these couple of weeks went by fast. I think Kris will be happy to have me leave and have his own place back! Kris thank you for your hospitality and generosity! Cousins are great!!
Gyeongju is the location of many Silla tombs and one of the Three kingdoms of Korea. There is a lot of history here (~1000 years) and they are doing a lot of excavations. This would be a great place to be an archaeologist. The excavations are in the middle of the city, so you don’t have to travel far or camp out!
Gyeongju National Museum: I forgot that the museums in Korea are not open on Monday. I got to see the museum grounds.
Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond:
Stone ice storage house (This looks like a hobbit house! You can get a prefab hobbit house for ~ $41/sq ft.):
Yangdong Hanok Village:
Tomb of King Naemul, other tombs, and Park: This looks like the chocolate hills in Bohal. The tombs are everywhere in the city (the larger the mound the more important the person, if there is a double mound, then the theory is that both the queen and king are buried in the same place. It seems like all the modern building are built around the tombs.
Cheomseongdae Observatory:
Korea I will miss you! There are a lot of places to hike. Transportation is so easy and inexpensive compared to America. I really like high speed rail! There are so many places to eat and a lot of different food to try! I met some great people!! Thank you!! Good bye!
